exactly! he's already served his time for his crime. Yes, he didn't serve long enough but that isn't his fault, its the judiciary's. Its a witch hunt, and i can't help but think that they're using it to swamp the papers so they don't report more important news

I can understand why it was Venables who broke down and not Thompson Thompson was the stronger character, and he has been strong enough to pull himself out of total destruction, although for a while he was a heroin addict. He has formed a happy relationship having realised he was gay.

Venables is displaying all the symptoms of someone cracking up under the weight of guilt and self loathing. That is what is behind his announcements of who he is and what he has done to strangers. He is probably a danger to himself as well as to others, it sounds as though he is really in a self destructive spiral now.

Waters of Mars was easily the best of last year specials and showed how Doctor Who works well, with a small group of people in one location, and an alien running amok. (Midnight or Horror of Fang Rock anybody?)

Top notch episode, which can proudly stand alone, no need to shudder at what came next.

A top notch review, I agree with most of it, but tbh John Simm just doesn't hack it as the Master for me, the manic/mugging stuff annoys me, let alone all the new Star Wars type powers he's been given lately.

Dalton was also wasted, the Time Lord plot pretty redundant and for 75% of its running time another over the top two parter, far too loud and Hollywood-style for my taste (as was Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords).

On the other hand the last 20mins of part two was pure class, and I can't stop replaying that!

The last five years have been, for the most part, an utter delight, RTD deserves so much praise for bringing the show back, and giving us some cracking episodes along the way, but the change has come at the right time, and I'm very optimistic about the future of our favourite Time Lord :)

In Moffat and Smith we trust!
