This is my review of David Tennant’s final stand as The Doctor, as written for TVOvermind.com
I’m hoping when the season kicks in during 2010, that my Doctor Who cohort might see fit to arrange a schedule with me so I don’t have to write all 13 reviews. *cough cough*
Anyway, heres my take on the show, suffice to say I like it enough that I will be purchasing it in one form or another….
Doctor Who, unlike any other show, before it or since, has thrived on a world of change. The character’s basic premise of regeneration was built into the show to never have to rely on one single actor to take the role, and that the mantle could pass down from actor to actor generation to generation, era to era. The 2 part finale shown in the UK and US during the Christmas and New Year period was designed to leave you in no doubt, then end of an era began in 2005 was here.
There are some British Christmas traditions that are truly unique, and aren’t really repeated anywhere else in the world, or if they are were started in Britain. The popularisation of The Christmas Tree, Christmas Cards, and Pantomime in particular are all British exports in the Christmas tradition. However, there is one race that seems to be uniquely British based and that the is the Race to the top of the singles chart at Christmas, the Christmas Number One.
In the last four years this particular battle had been nullified by a TV show called The X-Factor. The X-Factor is Simon Cowell’s TV show format to replace the Idol shows, baring very little difference except the contestants are divided into groups and given a mentor (pretty much no more than a figure head) who is also one of the judges on the show. Each year since they first started releasing their winner’s song in the week before Christmas, the X-Factor has dominated the number 1 position in the UK charts for that week. Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke all garnered Number One hit songs from the X-Factor.
I do have to apologise for my lack of blogging over the last month, I’ve been very busy. However, there will be a new blog in the next few days! Yay!
In fact, you’ll be getting three in the next 10 days! Yay!
Two are about Doctor Who again! Yay!
But one is definitely going to be about the furore of the UK Christmas Number One run. I, like many people couldn’t resist this battle, so I will be giving my view point very soon. Just as soon as I’ve wrapped up all these presents… Goddamn sellotape…
My personal blog. I'll post on anything that takes my interest, from the internet, popular culture, my beliefs and things I should really not be concerning myself with, but can't help myself.
